D’Amato Clinches Trainers Title
Oct 27, 2025 — Phil D’Amato clinched the Santa Anita autumn season trainers title while Juan Hernandez added a flourish to his jockeys title by completing a sweep of the track’s three stakes closing weekend.
D’Amato won once Sunday to finish with 13 victories, two more than Bob Baffert. It’s D’Amato’s eighth title at a Santa Anita meet, going back to 2016, but his first in a fall season.
Super Shine Returns From Layoff And Bags 1st Stakes For D’Amato
June 1, 2025 — Making her first start since September, Super Shine went to the lead under Hector Berrios and fended off a late challenge from odds-on favorite Chismosa to earn her first stakes win in Sunday’s $100,000 Desert Stormer Stakes for fillies and mares going six furlongs at Santa Anita.
“We were originally putting her in here to just kind of give her a race and get her ready for Del Mar,” D’Amato said. “I’ve got to give credit to my crew at Los Alamitos…they all work really hard and did a lot of gate work with her. She broke right on top today and didn’t look back. She is a nice quality filly and hopefully we will have some fun with her the rest of the year.”
D’Amato’s King of Gosford Wins the Grade I Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita
May 26, 2025 — King of Gosford uncorked a furious rally from mid-pack under Flavien Prat and got up just in a time to prevail in a three-way photo and earn his first Grade I win in Monday’s $300,000 Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita.
“I was expecting his best performance and I was hoping it was going to be a win,” D’Amato said. “I think Flavien learned a little something in defeat last time about making his move. But he knew and I knew that going into that last race, it was a tune up for this race and it worked out well.”
